George Peebles
George Peebles
Known for his vibrant, contemporary paintings of woodlands, fields and water, George sees the world through a different lense (as he is color blind). The viewer can feel the energy and pleasure that is poured into each piece he creates just by observing the movement of the brush and knife strokes.
George Peebles is a resident of Grand Rapids, Michigan where he attended Kendall College of Art and Design. He lives on a ‘farm in the city’ and paints in an old out building filled with drying works, supplies and his 70’s music collection.
Starting his career in painting, Peebles initially gravitated to creating abstract art. Overtime he has shifted to abstract realism; creating interpretations of landscapes, waterscapes and seasonal changes in the Michigan trees.
George has a unique color interpretation resulting from has red/green color blindness. He works in primarily brilliant colors and high contrast and finds more subtle, neutralized colors muddy and unexciting to his eyes.
Painting from memory and imagination, George works to capture “the place inside each of us where we connect to nature”. Every stroke he paints is an inward expression of his own personal emotions and response to nature.
Viewing a Peebles painting, one can identify the artist’s moods; high energy palette knife strokes contrast with softly fading brush strokes.
