John Leben
John's extensive experience and education encompasses over 6 decades of immersion painting, print making, robotics and technology in creating art, mixed media, video and animation leading him to embracing and mastering digital painting and print making. He has compiled an exhaustive list of national show participation, awards and published reviews of his work.
Lake Effect Gallery's features John's works that focus on West Michigan's lakeshore life. Most popular of this genre are his "Silent Stairways" depicting the unique and sometimes precarious wood staircase structures lining the bluffs of Lake Michigan which afford access to the pristine beaches and waters below.
"Silent Stairways" is a series of digital paintings created on his Macintosh computer and printed in limited editions using Epson fine art printers. Each line and each color are meticulously applied layer by layer with digital pen or mouse into the computer much like a traditional printmaker would scratch lines with a stylus on copper for an etching plate.
